Canines for Christ
The Canines for Christ Ministry provides an opportunity for a dog owner, and their pet, to show Christian love to persons who reside in nursing care facilities.
Six training sessions, led by a therapy dog evaluator and dog trainer, educate the owner and assist them in training their dog with the basics of behaving well in a nursing home or hospital setting. The sessions also provide instruction on interacting with patients or residents in a way that is both meaningful and safe. There is no charge for the sessions, however, a $30 donation for time and equipment is greatly appreciated. Once a dog has completed the training and has been evaluated, the owner is qualified for a one million dollar insurance policy (cost is $25.00/year) should a dog injure a patient or resident.
Being a part of Canines for Christ also gives participants, and their dogs, an opportunity to participate in other ministries of the church such as Kids Club, VBS, Sunday School, and Neighborhood Fun Night, and the home-bound ministry.
If God is calling you to show Christ's love and comfort in a different way, please consider joining this compassionate ministry. Contact Laurie Murry, Director of Outreach & Nurture Ministries at 938-1928 (ext. 241).
